Automatic product inspection is now an integral component in manufacturing plants' quality management systems. With this in mind we offer the very latest in hardware and software to meet the strictest inspection criteria. This application in Vistakon involves carrying out several checks on contact lens packaging in order to ensure that it reaches the end user in perfect condition. Firstly, the print quality on the carton is checked. As print quality deteriorates over time, the Vision System will detect this and will reject any cartons below a certain level.
Maintenance personnel will then be alerted. Secondly the placement of this print is checked relative to a rectangular border which is pre-printed on the carton. Again if the print has been placed outside the border, this fault will be detected and the problem rectified. Probably most important however is the third check, which carries out Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on the lens strength and product expiry date. This data is then transmitted to a local controller which compares it with a template. Any characters other than those deemed correct will be rejected and the product will be removed from the production line.
